Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bull Dogs
SPAY & NEUTER
SNKC CAN HELP! |
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

| FOSTER HOMES NEEDED June 2008 |
|
|
|
URGENT PLEA!!!!
MPR needs YOUR help in providing a FOSTER HOME for these two cherished pets. Sadly, their owner recently passed away and the surviving owner is not well enough right now to take care of them. The dogs have been cherished pets for six years and will NOT do well in boarding. MPR does not have any available foster homes for them to go to. Ideally, we'd like to see them placed into a foster home together.
Can YOU open your heart and home to help please ... |
DESPERATELY NEEDED!!!
MORE FOSTER HOMES.....
The dogs below are in boarding and in desperate need of foster care. Not only is boarding very expensive, but living in a cage is hard for any dog as sociable as a Pit Bull. Can you imagine for just a moment just how difficult it is being in a cage day in and day out when you once were a loving family pet? PLEASE open your heart and home for one of the sweethearts you see below. They desperately need YOU!
$$$ Each dog in boarding costs about $220.00 a month
As it is, we can't help anymore dogs until our boarding dogs are in foster care. MPR doesn't believe in long term boarding for the dogs in the program. We need to find foster homes for the boarding dogs before we can save more lives.....
Please help us help them.... |
|
| WE URGENTLY NEED YOU!!!! We've been approached to help these dogs below and it absolutely breaks our hearts into a million pieces to have to say we have no room because we are so full and in such desperate need of foster homes and funds. Please, please, please ... won't YOU help us by opening your heart and home to become a foster parent or if you can't do that at this time, please consider providing financial support so we can help all these dogs that so very desperately need us and YOU to help them! |

Trixie (aka Pita)
Trixie is house-trained and crate-trained. She is beautiful and has a very sweet disposition. She gets along well with other dogs, ignores cats, and walks well on a leash. Trixie is about 10 to 14 months old. Trixie is Heartworm positive.... |

Ziggy
Confiscated due to cruelty and neglect, this poor dog is in DIRE need of help. Ziggy was emaciated when rescued, had wounds and skin infections. In addition, he is Heartworm positive and hoping for a donation to save his life. Ziggy needs a foster home as soon as possible.
|
MPR holds Adoption Events on a regular basis to allow the public to meet our dogs, talk to our volunteers about Pit Bull ownership, ask question and spend individual time with a dog they might be interested to adopt.
Please email us if you want to know which dog will be attending this event.
Some events may be cancelled in case of rain.

There is a horror going on in thousands of communities in our Country. A horror that has been brought to the forefront thanks to the Oprah Winfrey show. This horror is legal in every State and is monitored by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. This incredible abuse is also being monitored by State staff, called Inspectors, who are forced to look away when the neglect is so obvious. This travesty I'm telling you about is called PUPPY MILLS.
Puppy Mills are basically a haven for cruelty and neglect. Dogs of all breeds are forced to live out their entire lives in rabbit type wire hutches and are most often seen outdoors in the unforgiving elements. These dogs are kept by people, not to feel the love of their captors, but instead are used only for their ability to whelp litter after litter. The females are bred with every heat cycle to reach maximum revenue. The males father thousands of puppies throughout their lives and suffer the same types of neglect. |

| Because the Commercial Dog Breeding Industry can be quite profitable, we are so often finding farmers whose crops are not producing who enter into this disgusting business. Believe it or not, dogs are seen by the Missouri Department of Agriculture as livestock. If you supply minimal housing, minimal food and water and most often no Veterinary care. Then the puppy breeding business can become very profitable. |

There is something that we can do to put these terrible Businesses out of business. But we have to change habits that are keeping these Puppy Mills functioning and profiting. Basically the order in which the Business is run is:
Puppy Mill ~ Commercial Dog Breeders who breed dogs purely for profit.
Broker ~ People who purchase Puppy Mill puppies to sell to Pet Stores.
Pet Store/Internet puppy nursery sale ~ A final place where the puppy can be dressed up to look "cute" to hide the horrors from which it came.
Consumer ~ YOU and I |
| Now it doesn't take a scientific study to tell us what would happen if we stopped purchasing our dogs from Pet Stores or Internet Nursery sites. This loss of Revenue would instantly have a trickle effect that would cease the demand for the mass production of these poor dogs. The Puppy Mill monsters would be forced out of business. To be successful in this fight, it is necessary for us to talk about this subject with our friends, educate people who are not aware and start shopping only at Pet Stores that do not sell puppies. |
I would encourage you to continue to educate yourself by visiting:
www.nopuppymills.com and http://www.petshoppuppies.org/index.htm
I would also encourage you to adopt your next dog or puppy from:
www.mprgroup.net www.petfinder.org
Please support us in this quest to save the lives of the dogs caught in this Industry.

| Omaha, Nebraska - Omaha To Consider Pit Bull Restrictions - Mayor Mike Fahey will meet Monday with the Nebraska Humane Society and the Omaha Police Department to try to prevent attacks. The Nebraska Humane Society said a pit bull ban may not be the best answer. "We just don't think breed specific legislation works. We have no evidence to support that," said Pam Wiese of the Nebraska Humane Society. Wiese said pit bull owner restrictions, education, and mandatory spay and neutering may be better options. Wiese said those options would be more enforceable for animal control. |
Missouri - HB 1777 Neglect is Abuse, Too - HB 1777 will make it easier to prosecute animal abusers. Current law demands that "substantial harm" must be done to an animal before a perpetrator can be found guilty of animal neglect. This requirement makes it very difficult to prosecute starvation cases. However, HB 1777 provides that a custodian and/or owner of an animal is guilty of animal neglect if he or she negligently fails to provide adequate care or adequate control. | Missouri - SB 819 Increases Penalties for Dog Fighting - Update, 3/06/08 - This bill was passed out of the Senate Judiciary committee on Monday, March 3, 2008. It has not yet been placed on the Senate calendar for a vote. SB 819 would give the Show Me State stiffer laws against dog fighting. The bill, sponsored by Senator Scott Rupp, would add dog fighting to the list of offenses that are subject to the Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act. It would increase the penalty for being a spectator at a dog fighting event, and allow law enforcement officers making a lawful seizure to take possession of dogs and property used in the violation. This bill is pending in the Senate Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. Click HERE for more information. |
| Missouri - SB 886 Regulates the Dog, Not the Breed - Anti-BSL bill heard in Senate (Missouri). Sen. Jolie Justus, a Kansas City Democrat, presented a bill in committee that would prohibit cities from adopting breed-specific dangerous-dog ordinances. If approved, Justus' bill would void all previous ordinances and prohibit any new ones from discriminating by breed. Click HERE for more information. |

Sweet Jewel |
| Wanted: New family for a BEAUTIFUL YOUNG SINGLE lilac beauty! " I have gorgeous gold eyes to melt your heart and juicy kisses to wash away your cares when you come home!! We could take walks in the park or just watch TV together. I'll be the perfect companion and won't ever ask for much. LOVE and DEVOTION are all yours in the exchange for a happy home." |
If you are looking for a calm, well behaved and sensitive girl, Jewel is the one for you. She bonds strongly to her loved ones and promises to give her whole little heart to her new family.
She recently lost her home in Arkansas and has been totally heartbroken. She now lives at the boarding facility and kennel life is hard on her. Our volunteers try to cheer her up by taking her on walks, but she rather lay on the grass and cuddle lovingly, as she is so desperate for love.
We have taken Jewel to a few adoption events and she is one of the best behaved dogs in the group. She is trying so hard to win over a new family, its almost pathetic.
We are keeping hope for her though, as a sweet, sweet girl like her can't possibly have to wait too long. Her unique lilac coat color is definitely attracting attention her way, but its her incomparable sweetness and calm demeanor that really appeal to people once they have spent a few minutes with Jewel.
Now all she needs, is someone who has room in their heart to welcome Jewel into their life. | |
| UPDATE: Kennel life is taking its toll on Jewel. Of all the dogs we have in boarding, Jewel is the one who's having the hardest time with it. The dog is not only totally heartbroken by the loss of her family, but she is also scared by the loud barking dogs and general chaos of kennel life. Jewel is just too sensitive for this kind of environment. She needs a foster home urgently. Her situation is breaking her spirit and we are worried about the poor girl. |

| FEATURED VOLUNTEER July 2008 |

It was MPR's lucky day when Sharon laid her eyes on Reina Rae back in July 2003, and fell in love with her soulful eyes. Sharon was touched by Reina's story, a brave momma dog pulled from deathrow with 6 puppies, and decided to give mom a loving home instead of falling for one of the puppies. Needless to say, MPR was thrilled with the adoption. As if this was not enough however, Sharon, who had obviously been pleased with her experience with MPR, offered her services as a volunteer.... And the rest is history...
Sharon has now been with MPR for 5 years and quite frankly, we don't know what we would do without her. Sharon is one of the rare volunteers who has experience with the program we use to maintain our web site, making her one of the two volunteers in charge of web site maintenance. A precious position considering the incredible amount of work updating MPR pages generate.
In addition to her involvement with MPR, Sharon is also an active volunteer with PBRC, helps Pit Bull rescue locally in her state (Oklahoma) and fosters needy dogs until they find a loving home. Sharon's true devotion and commitment to the Pit Bull breed is simply remarkable and her hard work and stamina is an inspiration to all of us.

Sharon, in the name of all the dogs who owe their life and happiness to your hard work and perseverance, MPR group says "thank you"....
