Not Enough GOOD Homes For Pit Bull Dogs

SPAY & NEUTER
SNKC CAN HELP!

Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

  FOSTER HOMES NEEDED  August 2008

URGENT PLEA!!!!

MPR needs YOUR help in providing a FOSTER HOME for these two cherished pets. Sadly, their owner recently passed away and the surviving owner is not well enough right now to take care of them. The dogs have been cherished pets for six years and will NOT do well in boarding. MPR does not have any available foster homes for them to go to. Ideally, we'd like to see them placed into a foster home together.

Can YOU open your heart and home to help please ...

DESPERATELY NEEDED!!!

MORE FOSTER HOMES.....

The dogs below are in boarding and in desperate need of foster care. Not only is boarding very expensive, but living in a cage is hard for any dog as sociable as a Pit Bull. Can you imagine for just a moment just how difficult it is being in a cage day in and day out when you once were a loving family pet? PLEASE open your heart and home for one of the sweethearts you see below. They desperately need YOU!

Each dog in boarding costs about $220.00 a month

I Need A Foster Home Please
I Need A Foster Home Please
I Need A Foster Home Please

As it is, we can't help anymore dogs until our boarding dogs are in foster care. MPR doesn't believe in long term boarding for the dogs in the program. We need to find foster homes for the boarding dogs before we can save more lives.....

 The Dogs Nobody Wants

Please Adopt ME!

Choosing dogs to bring into Missouri Pit Bull Rescue is a daunting task. There are far more out there needing to be rescued than we could ever have room for. This means we have to pick and choose those that we think will be best for our program. We choose dogs based on various criteria, including first and foremost good temperament.

Then of course there is looks, age, medical issues, ability to get along with other dogs/cats etc... Now we know that "flashy" dogs will always be popular and we are able to place those good looking blue, white or otherwise attractive dogs fairly quickly. It would be very easy for us to fill our rescue with only eye-catching dogs. But that isn't what we are about.

There are also thousands of other kinds of "pit bulls" that need homes too. Those that are simply brown, black or maybe brindle. Those that bear the scars of being forced to fight or survive on their own in the streets. Dogs that perhaps would do best as an only dog or who might need to be on a crate and rotate. We don't turn these dogs away simply because they might be harder to place. These dogs have the same love in their heart and deserve the chance to be loved in return.

Please take a look at these dogs and consider opening your house and heart to them. ~ Amy N

  NEWS August 2008

How to let kids pet your dog - As we all know there can be some danger in having a child approach a strange dog and pet it. The Victor Valley Daily Press has a good story on ways to teach kids to pet appropriately as well as warning signs to be wary of.

BSL NEWS

Missouri - HB 1777 Neglect is Abuse, Too - HB 1777 will make it easier to prosecute animal abusers. Current law demands that "substantial harm" must be done to an animal before a perpetrator can be found guilty of animal neglect. This requirement makes it very difficult to prosecute starvation cases. However, HB 1777 provides that a custodian and/or owner of an animal is guilty of animal neglect if he or she negligently fails to provide adequate care or adequate control. Click HERE for more information.

Missouri - SB 819 Increases Penalties for Dog Fighting - Update, 3/06/08 - This bill was passed out of the Senate Judiciary committee on Monday, March 3, 2008. It has not yet been placed on the Senate calendar for a vote. SB 819 would give the Show Me State stiffer laws against dog fighting. The bill, sponsored by Senator Scott Rupp, would add dog fighting to the list of offenses that are subject to the Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act. It would increase the penalty for being a spectator at a dog fighting event, and allow law enforcement officers making a lawful seizure to take possession of dogs and property used in the violation. This bill is pending in the Senate Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. Click HERE for more information.
Missouri - SB 886 Regulates the Dog, Not the Breed - Anti-BSL bill heard in Senate (Missouri). Sen. Jolie Justus, a Kansas City Democrat, presented a bill in committee that would prohibit cities from adopting breed-specific dangerous-dog ordinances. If approved, Justus' bill would void all previous ordinances and prohibit any new ones from discriminating by breed. Click HERE for more information.

  CENTERFOLD August 2008   Lollapalooza Lola

Meet our very entertaining Miss Lola. Quite the showgirl indeed. Lola has so much personality and so many expressions. She smiles to greet you and her charm is impossible to resist. In case you're wondering ... Lollapalooza means admirable or remarkable and that's just what we all think she is!

Lola lost her home recently because of personality conflicts with another dog in home. We're not sure what caused the discord between the dogs, and which of the two initiated the hostilities, but at this point we feel that Lola might do better as an only pet. That said, she could perhaps share her home with a friendly male if the owners are very pit savvy and know how to establish leadership and provide good supervision.

Lola has lived with children all her life, including toddlers. She does very good with them. In fact, she lights up when little ones are around and you can see a genuine love for children in her eyes.

Very fun-loving gal, comical personality, Lola can be a real goofball at times and a sweet cuddle bug the next minute. Typical Pit Bull! Lola has a real love for life and while she has playful moments, she is not a hyper dog. In fact, she's quite the couch potato most of the time.

Dog of the Month
Coming home when you have a dog like Lola to greet you will erase any bad day you might have had. This happy girl is a moral booster. Lola will cheer you up and sooner than you know, you'll be on your way to a walk in the woods or a trip to Petco, or simply a well deserved nap on the couch, with Miss Lola all cuddled up in your arms... Can life be any better?

FEATURED VOLUNTEER August 2008  Kelly and Prophett Strother

Vol of the month

Wow! What a dynamic duo these two are! They began volunteering for MPR as a foster home and are currently fostering Xander.

The depth of their caring is evident in the things they do for MPR! They are always there and willing to help where there is the most need. Some of their activities are, but not limited to: fostering, attending training sessions with their foster dog, organizing and attending events, providing homebaked dog treats at events, and even recruiting another foster home. If that wasn't enough, they have also provided a pool for Harmony's much needed hydrotherapy sessions as she heals from hip surgery.

Kelly and Prophett 's hard work and commitment are such an asset to MPR and we are so very fortunate and thankful to have them both on board. You guys ROCK!!!

Happy Fiona

We recently adopted little Miss Fiona from you guys. She is one of the greatest dogs ever. Fiona and our male boxer Diesel are awesome together. The instant they met they started playing and kissing even through the kennels when we were letting them figure each other out. She definitely wears the pants in their relationship and Diesel just goes along with whatever like a love sick puppy (he even gave her his dog bed)!

We were a little nervous about the neighbors reactions to her, but so far there haven't been any rude comments, only questions and compliments on what a pretty girl she is. My mom, who is generally anti-fight breeds, instantly fell for her; mostly due to her little oinks she does when she wants to give kisses!

Basically, we just wanted to let you all know what an amazing dog you have given us the opportunity to own. She will be much loved!

Featured Happy Ending

Hi Amy! I just wanted to thank you again for taking the time to chat with me about EllaMae.  I took her to Tomahawk Animal Hospital and they were great - but had no idea what was going on with EllaMae.  He also recommended Dr. Senter, the doggie dermatologist at Mission MedVet.  We saw Dr. Senter this week and were suprised to learn Ella has some nasty chiggers and basically Pibble Patterned Baldness! Common in Staffies. Who knew? So our sweet girl may never have hair on her underbelly but she doesn't seem to care! I attatched a couple of pictures.  I just can't thank MPR enough for our little girl! ~ Amy Kincaid
