This brave little guy was rescued from a very difficult situation. We don't have all the details of his story, but the severity of his injuries tells a lot about the abuse he must have endured.

Both hip joints have been broken. One hip joint, where it goes in the socket, was completely broken in half. His body created a new joint, that isn't lined up very well. On the other side, the joint has jamed into the socket.

His spine has a kink in it about 4 inches from his behind. That to healed on it's own so to speak, but there is some nerve damage.

The severity of his injuries will be assessed by an orthopedist and possibly a neurologist in the next few days. We will update Harley's bio as soon as we know the extend of his condition.

Caution; the following pictures are not very pleasant to watch: Back1 | Back2 | Back3 | Back4 | Back5

UPDATE: Harley saw a orthopedist and a neurologist; Dr. Tockman and Dr. Landurm. His spine doesn't appear broken, but damaged by the broken hips. The femur heads must be removed from the hip joints. They are disconnected, and have turned into mush. The vets can't believe this dog is walking and acting all happy. They want to rebuild both hips. They will remove the broken heads and put in fatty pads for the muscles to grow around. They expect him to have a 80% recovery. There might still be some irreversible nerve damage but nothing that should cause serious long term problems. They expect Harley to live a long and happy life once his hips are repaired and he has recovered from the surgery.

Other than the hips and spinal injuries, Harley came to rescue almost starved to death. He was without food for long that he had to relearn to be hungry. He still needs to gain weight but doesn't seem to have permanent damage to his digestive system.

You would think the little dog would have lost faith in people by now, but unbelievably, he has not. In fact, he is one of the most loving and cuddly dog we have rescued. He craves love and affection and will happily give his whole little heart to everyone who wants it. He loves nothing more than to curl up in your arms for a nap. He is simply irresistible.

Beautiful Harley

He is fostered in a home with other dogs, a cat, and kids. He does great with everyone. Harley is absolutely no trouble at all. He is very calm and easygoing, and because of his condition, he might never require the same amount of exercise than a regular Pit Bull. All he wants is a chance to live his life peacefully and surrounded by caring people.

Sweet Harley

Harley's surgery is scheduled for June 6th, 2002. He will be ready for adoption shortly after. MPR is willing to keep him until he is back on his feet so to speak, unless a new owner would like to be part of his recovery. MPR is thanking Mutts&Stuff, Dr. Tockman and Dr. Landurm, PBRC, and all the private donators who have generously donated money, time and efforts to save this very lucky little guy.
