Sweetheart
Story: Sassy originally came to us as a foster from the local shelter in Jefferson. She was an owner surrender along with another male pit bull. She was adopted to a man for 6 or 7 months. I no longer fotered during that time. I kept in contact with Sassys adopter frequently and they got along well until he took a job for which he had to travel and be gone for extended periods of time. I agreed to take Sassy and attempt to find her a home as I had heard (unofficially) that local shelter was no longer adopting out the pit bulls that were brought in or at least discussing that possibility.
Love-a-bull!
Foster Situation: My husband and I both love Sassy but live on a farm with 5 resident dogs and several farm cats along with chickens, goats, etc. Sassy gets along well with the other dogs but we can't give her the freedom that she deserves because of the other animals. She is currently my husbands companion in his "man cave."
Sassy is loving and loyal. She was around young children with her former adopter and loved them. She is a snuggle bug and loves sleeping in bed with her person. She literally smiles at my husband when he comes home at night.
She does have a chronic ear infection which requires cleaning her ears often and occasionally medicating with ear drops which are not terribly expensive. She will have accidents if her ears are bothering her and she doesn't get treated.
She normally eats seperately from the other dogs although not always. She prefers to have her own food dish and space but has not done anything more than growl at the food bowl. My dogs respect the space that she asks for. They are all medium to large size. She loves romping and playing with the other dogs to the point of exhaustion. From her experiences at the shelter, I think that she does not like small yappy dogs with an attitude. (I will be the first to admit that shelter experiences may be totally different than in a home setting.)
Precious Girl
Sassy's rabies shot were due to expire Oct 7th 2011, and we just had that updated yesterday. This shot is good for 3 years. She was spayed and given distemper and neg heartworm test on 10/7/10. She is microchipped.
Pretty Girl
There are occasional people that she will bark at, mostly men that she does not know who come to the house. Sassy needs to be in a home with someone strong enough to handle her on a leash if she sees a cat. She does well on a leash otherwise. She is a wonderful companion and would seem to be a great running mate.
