Week 1
Sweet Eyes | Good boy | Precious Boy
He might look terrible right now but this dog has BEAUTIFUL heart! He is sooooo sweet.... Hard to believe, considering what's he's been through, but this sweetheart is as sweet and loving as can be.
Handsome is staying in a temporary foster home right now, where he has began treatment for his condition. He needs a new foster home ASAP due to current foster family being over pet limit.
Handsome loooooves all the comfort and good care he is receiving and shows his appreciation by being a good little guest. He does very well in the crate and is calm and quiet. All he wants really, is to curl himself up on a soft cushion and blankets, and recuperate from his ordeal. He doesn't show aggression towards other dogs in the house but is kept separate from them, due to his condition.
Note that Handsome's long term prognostic is good. Demodex is usually treatable unless the dog has a very compromised immune system. We should know soon what the future holds for Mr Handsome, according to how he responds to the treatment. Stress, difficult living conditions, poor alimentation, etc, are major contributors to demodex and acerbate the problem. Now that Handsome is in a loving home, kept inside with a warm bed, fed a good diet and is no longer exposed to the elements outside, we are very hopeful that he will look like a new boy in just a few months.
MPR wants to say a big thank you to the "Brookside's Barkery & Bath" for the special food, vitamins and supplements they donated for Handsome's care.
Help us help Mr. Handsome Pants!
Please help us help Mr. Handsome to become the good looking and healthy boy he should be, by donating financially to his care and recovery.
Handsome is suffering from an extreme case of mange and secondary infections. If left untreated, it would have killed him! His recovery is going to be costly and long because the mange and secondary infections are so far advanced. We promised him a better life ... Please help us to help him. |

Update: Week 3
“Handsome” is definitely a good name for him. This boy is becoming quite handsome indeed J Handsome has gained over 15Lbs since his rescue.
As you see from the latest pictures, no more bleeding, no more infection and the scabs are almost all gone…. We just need to be patient now, and wait for the hair to grow back. Handsome still has red and irritated skin but we feel confident that the worse is over.
Handsome's level of energy continues to increase and along with it, his puppy personality. He knows nothing but he’s trying to learn. We’ve mastered “sit” this week….. Lol!
Handsome loves people and craves attention. He shows no aggression towards other dogs but he has not been officially introduced yet. I can tell he cant wait to play with a doggy friend but that will have to wait a little longer.
We are working on house training and Handsome does well as long as he has frequent access to the yard. He crates very well. No mess, no whining. He sleeps all night and waits to be let out in the morning.
Handsome accepts his medication regiment very well and is not difficult to bathe.
When left alone in the dog room, Handsome likes to pull all the blankets from the shelves to amuse himself. He acts like a big puppy who is experiencing fun for the first time in his life. It's very easy to entertain him and he's very much a big happy clown himself.
Looking much better | So cute | Proud Handsome | Wow!
Handsome is a happy-go-lucky boy who has already put his difficult past behind him and is thrilled to discover that life can be fun. It's as if he didn't want to miss a minute of it and was making up for all that he missed before. He needs training and structure but he is responsive and eager to please. It's such a great feeling to watch him enjoy life...
Update: Week 6
We are very happy to report that Handsome is now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel The change is amazing. His hair is growing back! We were hopeful that this friendly boy would turn into a hunk once he got rid of the mange and we were right! Not only he is becoming quite a good looking dog, but his training is going great too and Handsome is proving that he has what it takes to make a wonderful family companion.
