Bullet's rescue story begins when his home was raided by the KCMO squad. Like most dogs, Bullet likely ran to the door to greet everyone unbeknownst to the officers. Evidently, an officer shot Bullet twice. One in the face and one in the neck/shoulder area. Bullet was rushed to KCMO Animal Control facility where a Veterinarian immediately tended to his wounds. Since he was gravely injured, euthanasia appeared to be the best option. However, even covered in blood and in great pain, the sweet dog was still happy to see people and was kissing everyone. The vet was so impressed by his loving disposition and resilience that he contacted MPR to see if we could help.
MPR agreed and Bullet was transferred to a private vet clinic where he underwent extensive surgery to extract the bullets and repair his shattered shoulder and jaw. Bullet has since been moved to MPR's mini shelter where he is recuperating and thriving.
Since in MPR's care, our volunteers find Bullet incredibly loving and playful, not at all aggressive. He just a silly dog who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. With much TLC, Bullet has been nursed back to health. He occasionally has a mild limp after intensive exercise but that doesn't seem to be bothering him what's so ever. In fact, nothing seems to bother Bullet. He has a very positive spirit and personality.

Foster Situation: Bullet is currently at the MPR mini-shelter. FOSTER HOME NEEDED! He sure doesn't mind his stay at the shelter, but as soon as he finds a loving foster home, we will be able to help another dog.
Bullet is definitely a lover (not a fighter). He loves any person who will give him the time of day. He is very playful and energetic, though he also has his "couch potato" moments. He is still young and often acts more like a goofball than anything. He's full of charm and happy drive.

Training: Bullet is crate trained, and is currently working on tricks. He is responsive and smart. He will require someone with good leadership though, as his fun-loving personality can often get in the way of his manners. He's just too happy to be alive. Who would blame him?
A Serious Moment | Goofball | Happy Boy | So Cute!
Personality: Since Bullet is still a young buck (if he weren't who knows if he would have survived such trauma!), he can be a bit more outgoing than some of the older, mature dogs he lives with. This is not a bad thing; he is not constantly hyper and begging for attention, he simply gets too happy-for-his-own-good when someone comes to see him. He just wants to show people how much he appreciates them for playing with him.
Bullet is energetic and we prefer a home with a large fenced yard for this happy boy so he has a good outlet for his energy. Being a big puppy at heart himself, Bullet enjoys the company of children but older kids are preferred.
Bullet needs a home that can provide him with structure and leadership. He is responsive and eager to please but he is big and powerful. He will test his boundaries without someone who doesn't take the lead with him.
A boy and his ball
We beleive Bullet might be better as an only pet. Bullet is bigger in person than he looks on pictures and sometimes thinks he's a bulldozer. He is learning to control his enthusiasm though and is being receptive to training.
Kiss-a-bull | Sitting | Those Eyes | Those Ears | Velvety Coat
Best Attribute: If Bullet's amazing story of courage and forgiveness doesn't pull you in, his darling pointy, fox-like ears will. He has the cutest face that makes everyone's heart melt. Bullet is stocky and built like tank. You need to see him in person to realize just how impressive looking he is.
He has the face of a young dog; there is so much happiness, joy, and curiosity in his eyes. We believe Bullet realizes he has been given a second chance, and plans to love every minute of it.
Bullet desperately wants and needs someone who can continue his second chance at life, and will live it with him to the fullest.
